What is Déjà Vu?

Have you ever been somewhere or doing something and had the strangest sense that you’ve been there before or have done that same thing before? It sort of feels like it occurred in a different time period. This is called having Déjà vu, which is an enigmatic phenomenon of going through an experience that in some way already happened to you. It can happen when you enter a room, say a sentence or feel a certain feeling and the entire experience just seems eerily familiar. It happens to the majority of people and has not explained by science so far. As a phenomenon, it is incredibly interesting and continues to haunt the curiosity of many experts to this day.

Sometimes Déjà vu strikes in the most uncommon of ways, and even the person who experiences it cannot explain just what it is that feels so familiar. Common sense, memory and the rational part of our minds will always tell us that the experience is new, and that the feeling is completely false, but the eerie feeling of familiarity does not go away, no matter how irrational the entire ordeal seems to be.

Two types of Déjà vu

There are essentially two types of déjà vu, in the broadest sense possible. One is biological and the other one is entirely associative. What this means is people often end up experiencing the same sensation through different means, and in completely different circumstances.

The most common type of déjà vu is definitely associative. This happens to various people throughout the world on a daily basis. Essentially, it is a feeling we get when we experience a sensation similar to a similar one from the past. Professionals in the field firmly believe that this type of sensation is connected to our memory. It is a rather simple phenomena and happens to most everyone. Individuals of perfectly normal health experience associative déjà vu, but not as many people experience the biological déjà vu.

Understanding biological déjà vu

People who suffer from temporal lobe epilepsy often experience the biological kind of déjà vu. It often happens right before a seizure and is an extremely intense phenomena. Scientists do perform research by identifying the parts of the brain that are active during biological déjà vu in an effort to understand it. Many leading experts believe that associative and biological déjà vu are completely separated and do not share anything in nature, despite the similar experience they produce.

Some people from the spirituality niche believe that when we experience déjà vu, we are experiencing a glitch in the matrix system and could be experiencing a memory from another time or dimension. If you’ve ever seen the movie, The Matrix, you’ll understand better what the matrix is associated with, as it essentially means that what we think we are experiencing here on earth is not really reality. It’s a projection of our consciousness solely for this time and space, but there are other dimensions and in those other dimensions there is no such thing as time or space. So when you feel that déjà vu feeling, you may simply be reliving something you’ve already experienced in a different reality. Sounds kind of “out there”, but for many people this makes perfect sense.

In the end, déjà vu remains one of many mysteries connected with the human psyche, and as such evokes curiosity of entire Earth’s population. Some claim it is connected with the human organism in its entity, but some believe it is spiritual in nature. Parapsychologists, which are experts who focus on understating such unknown mysteries, often see it as an experience from past lives emerging in the life people are living at the moment.

A majority of people believe it is a spiritual answer to a strong experience from the past which helped forge our spirit and make us who we are. Regardless of what you may believe it stems from, you cannot help but notice that even though the feeling is a bit eerie, it’s exciting and interesting at the same time. When we don’t fully quite understand something, it just gets all of those curious buttons going and we try to figure out what is really occurring. Of course, all of these theories are just theories and the phenomena keeps happening and continues to evoke curiosity.
